The Showdown: One of the Most Important Parts of Texas Holdem

With the presence of numerous outstanding and super competitive poker players, it is quite normal to see some poker games reach the showdown phase of Texas Holdem. Comprised of four action-packed and tension-filled betting rounds, this game is undoubtedly one of the most competitive, exciting, and fun to play above all the other casino games out there. A showdown may not always take place, but serious poker players should always know what to do and how to play the round whenever they are placed in certain situations.

In case after passing through the four betting rounds of Texas Holdem only a single poker player remains in contention for the pot, that individual automatically wins the game as well as the pot prize, eliminating the need for that person to show what he has in his hands. In this kind of situation, there is really no need for a showdown phase as the game has already been concluded when only one player was left in the run for the pot.

On the flip side, if there is more than a single player left after the pre-flop, flop, turn, and river betting rounds have passed, the remaining players who are still in contention for the pot prize would have to fight off one another and engage in a showdown for the right to be called the winner. This is not an easy task, as each of the remaining participants would have to use their hole cards in combination with all the laid bare community cards at the table to create their best five-card hands.

In a typical Texas Holdem showdown phase, players can use none of their hole cards to form their best hands, although this situation would likely call for a tie because community cards can be used by every other player on the table. Some professional poker players call this situation as playing the board, as the players who use such move can only hope for a tie with the other remaining players as their best finish. When this happens, both players who are playing the board can share the pot in half, and end the game both as winners.

Furthermore, card players could also use only one of their hole cards in combination with four other community cards to create a very strong hand for the showdown phase of a Texas Holdem poker game. At most, players could use both their individual cards in combination with three other community cards to come up with their best five-card hand combination possible. Because suits are of little significance in Texas Holdem, the face value of the cards is definitely important.
